Leaders: 7 Insightful Questions to Ask Yourself

Self-reflection leads to greater self-awareness. For leaders, it is especially important.

Many of my clients (and I) marvel at the speed of 2024. How are we already at mid-year? This halfway point provides an ideal time to sit in the present, ask questions, and learn from the previous six months. What lessons from January to June can benefit you from July to December?

To get the most out of the year, check in with yourself by journaling the answers to these questions. They provide an understanding of the value you created, of the things getting in your way, and of your overall satisfaction in your role.

What are the highlights of my year so far?

What are the roadblocks I’ve encountered this year?

On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is high stress and 1 is no stress, where am I right now?

What can I learn from my highlights, my roadblocks, and my current level of stress to help me in the second half of the year?

What am I holding onto that I could (and likely should) delegate to a member of my team?

What can I ask for from my own leader to grow in my role?

When am I scheduling time off for the remainder of the year?

While these questions pertain to leadership and your career, they can be modified and asked of your health & wellbeing and family & relationships. Extra credit if you reflect on these areas as well. It’s all connected.

Take a pause during the hectic pace of 2024, and reap the benefits of reflection. The remainder of your 2024 will benefit.
