Self-Coaching for the Holiday Season

As the year draws to a close (already!), you may find yourself overwhelmed with the number of obligations on your calendar. Because we are still learning how to socialize in a post-pandemic world, this is an excellent time to set boundaries based on your preferences.

Self-coaching helps us to reflect and prioritize. Before sending in that RSVP or realizing that you have no free evenings in December, ask yourself these questions to give yourself the most precious gift of all - time to enjoy what matters most to you this season.

  • Looking back to last year, what were the events or activities I enjoyed most during the holidays? Least?

  • If I could only do three events this holiday season, which ones would I choose?

  • Who are the people I want to meaningfully connect with this holiday season?

  • How much time do I want to enjoy relaxing this holiday season? Is my answer reflected on my calendar?

  • What is the most important thing for me to experience this holiday season? (Write this answer down and look at it every time an invite or social engagement is presented to you.)

This time of year can be filled with tremendous joy and gratitude, and it can also be a time of sadness and grief depending on where you are right now. Realizing your needs and caring for yourself during the holidays provides the deep breath you may need as the year concludes.

Wishing you peace, love, and time engaging in the things you enjoy most during this time of year.
