9/11 Reflections: 22 Years Later

I'm feeling heaviness this week as I vividly recall the events of 9/11/2001.  It seems like yesterday.  I was working in my office when a colleague came to tell me what was going on in New York.  We watched in disbelief as the events of the morning unfolded rapidly.  The weeks and months to come were surreal for many reasons, especially because of the impact that day had on my family.

As I experience the range of emotions that accompany the 9/11 anniversary, I am comforted and thankful that a group of people at DavisBaldwin took care of me, surrounded me with love, and left a legacy of compassion that will never go away.  I remember the kindness of my team members who checked in with me daily.  I remember the way they rallied around me and my family to help.  I remember them walking alongside me to remind me I was not alone.  I think of them every year on 9/11, and we are forever connected by the events of that day.

When I coach leaders, we talk frequently about the impact they make on the lives of others and the legacy they leave behind.  You can make a tremendous difference in a colleague’s life, especially when they are in pain.  My DavisBaldwin team members gave me the gift of empathy 22 years ago. It came at a time when I needed it most.  It is a gift that impacts me still.

Thinking in a special way of those who lost their lives 22 years ago.  Sending love to families and friends impacted by the loss of that tragic day.
