Foundational Journal Questions for Leaders
It is no secret that I encourage clients to get and use a journal. There are many reasons for this. Journals are a place to capture thoughts, to reflect on leadership performance, and to determine future goals. If you are interested in reaping the benefits of journaling, start here:
Schedule 15 minutes once a week for Journal Time. Doing this at the same time each week increases the likelihood of the habit.
Have one guiding question alongside the blank page of your journal.
Before closing your journal, read your words. Time permitting, read previous entries.
Use the wisdom from your journal to guide performance as a leader.
The questions below set a foundation for your journal practice. Answer one at a time over the next five weeks.
Why did I get into leadership?
Why am I in leadership now?
What are the values I demonstrate as a leader?
How am I investing in my own leadership growth?
What is my leadership legacy?
At the end of five weeks, notice patterns. Use the information you captured to positively impact your career growth and your leadership. What are you doing well? Where can you grow? How are you shaping your legacy? Continue to use the journal as a resource to develop ideas and note progress. A journal is a phenomenal learning companion.
